We are very sorry to report the recent death of John Cuttriss and send our sympathies to his family and friends.
John had a keen interest in local history, particularly Chesterfield’s past music scene. He published a number of books, including ones on the Carlton Club and the Aquarius night club.
An earlier publication was his history of the Clayton Challenge Shield. This was a meticulously researched history of the shield, first established by Chesterfield Councillor JE Clayton in the early 1890s. It’s still played for today by, principally, school football teams.
It’s believed that John was hoping to publish a history of Chesterfield’s painters and decorators. He had initially served his apprenticeship in this trade.
