We’ve said goodbye to our old meeting venue at St Thomas and are moving to a new venue – the Olde House – from our March meeting.
Unfortunately we’ve been double booked all year by St Thomas Church Centre so are having to move to the well-known Olde House public house and hotel, Loundsley Green Road, Newbold, Chesterfield, S40 4RN.
It’s not been possible to find another suitable venue, available on the dates we have booked for our speakers. At the Olde House, we will be in the large function room, which accommodates around 70 people, so this should be adequate for our meetings. The room is also air conditioned (just in case we have a summer!). There’s free car parking available on site.
Admission arrangements stay the same – free for members and for visitors the charge is £3. Students under 22 in full-time education are also free. Like all our meetings all are welcome, whether members or not. Doors will open around 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start – as present.
Refreshment arrangements will change. The society will not be providing refreshments – but can these be obtained from the public bar – situated close to the large meeting room – chargeable at normal bar prices.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this move will cause to our members and visitors. Unfortunately the society’s committee had to make the decision to move, due to circumstances completely out of our control.
Our next talk is on Monday March 16, when Simon Unsworth will be presenting ‘The Folklore of Derbyshire’. This should be a fascinating journey into the rich folklore of Derbyshire and the Peak District; its stories, traditions, legends and mysterious places. We hope to see you at our new venue – the Olde House.
