Arkwright family focus for our May meeting

Our Monday May 18 meeting will focus on ‘The Textile Arkwrights: a surprising family of musicians, politicians and artists’, with Cliff Lea.

Many will know about the first fortune made by the Arkwrights at Cromford, but what happened in successive generations? In this illustrated talk Cliff will explore this and how descendants of Richard Arkwright used the advantages that the fortune gave them.

Cliff Lea is a well-known local historian, who particularly focusses on industrial archaeology. He was one of founders of The North East Derbyshire Industrial Archaeology Society and is currently actively involved with the Arkwright Society.

We are at our new venue – The Olde House, Loundsley Green Road, Newbold, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S40 4RN. You will find us in the Large Function Room. We start at 7:30 pm, with doors opening around 7 pm. Refreshments can be obtained at the main bar, situated within The Olde House bar area.

Admission is free for members and for visitors the charge is £3. Students under 22 in full-time education are also free. Free parking is available on site. All are welcome to attend.
