April newsletter available

Our April newsletter is now available. You can download it from the button at the bottom of this post. Featured are the 1960s Chesterfield Courthouse and some more about the early 1900s bus service started by CP Markham (as a follow-on from out last newsletter).

The former courthouse features in our April newsletter

A particular high-light is the start of a short series of articles on ‘Chesterfield visits’ by Christine Thomason. These are edited from accounts she wrote for her school, following visits to various premises. In the case of the courthouse, this was not long after the building opened in 1965.

This photograph, a copy taken by the late Alec Jackson, alongside a note by the late Gregg Lilleker about its subject, also features in our newsletter. It shows Chesterfield’s first bus service started in the 1900s by Charles Paxton Markham.
