Hipper industry focus for May meeting

We have confirmed the venue for our next (20 May) meeting as being in the actual church building at St. Thomas, Chatsworth Road.

We’re looking forward to Cliff Lea talking about ‘Industries of Brampton along the River Hipper’  at this meeting.

Cliff has studied the industrial archaeology and history of the area for many years. In this presentation he will take us on an authoritative journey along the river Hipper, in Brampton, looking at its many industries.

The change from our normal room (normally the main church centre at St Thomas) – has been made as we have been double booked. In April we used the adjacent ‘suite’ room, due to some issues in the church with heating (or lack of it) and the audio visual equipment, but this room is quite small. We hope that the church issues will be resolved for our May meeting.

We are in St Thomas church itself for our May and June meetings – after which we are back into our normal church centre venue.

The church is accessible from the door under the church tower itself and is located on Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, S40 3AW.

Admission is free for members and for visitors the charge is £3. Free parking is available on site or on neighbouring streets.

Doors normally open from around 7pm for a 7.30pm start and there is an opportunity to obtain light refreshments before and after our presentation (50p per cup of tea or coffee).

Our June 17th meeting is also being held in the church as it’s a talk about the history of building itself.
